EFCC Debunks Viral Secret Recruitment Claim, Warns Nigerians Against Fraudulent Job Offers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed a viral social media claim alleging that the agency has secretly commenced a recruitment exercise, describing the information as false and warning Nigerians against falling victim to fraudsters.

The anti-graft agency issued the clarification on Monday through its verified X account, where it shared a notice marked “FAKE NEWS” and advised members of the public to disregard the circulating message.

The misleading post had claimed that the EFCC was quietly recruiting new personnel and that successful applicants would begin training in the coming month. It also encouraged individuals to send private messages to obtain further details.

However, the commission said the claim had no connection with its operations and was not authorised by the agency.

The EFCC warned that similar false recruitment announcements had previously been used by fraudsters to exploit job seekers by collecting personal information or demanding payments under the guise of securing employment opportunities.

The commission reiterated that whenever it conducts recruitment exercises, such processes are publicly announced through its official communication channels and handled transparently.

It stressed that applicants should be cautious of unofficial sources, anonymous messages, or online platforms claiming to have access to hidden EFCC job opportunities.

The agency urged Nigerians to always verify information concerning recruitment, employment opportunities, and other official activities through its verified platforms before taking any action.

The EFCC further advised members of the public to avoid sharing sensitive personal information with unknown individuals online, noting that reliance on unverified claims could expose unsuspecting citizens to scams.

The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of fake government recruitment announcements by online fraudsters targeting unemployed Nigerians seeking job opportunities.
