Five dismissed police officers have pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged extrajudicial killing of Oghenemine Ogidi, the 28-year-old Warri-based musician popularly known as "OG Million."
The former officers were arraigned on Tuesday before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba over the April 26 incident in Effurun, Delta State.
The prime defendant, former Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Usman Nuhu, also known as "Ogbegbe," is standing trial alongside former ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, as well as former Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley and Omonigho Ahweyevu.
While Nuhu faces a one-count charge of murder under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Delta State, the four other defendants were charged with negligent acts causing harm, contrary to Section 344 of the same law.
All five defendants pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them.
Following their pleas, Justice Nduka adjourned the matter until July 14, 2026 for the commencement of trial.
Speaking after the proceedings, Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ekemejero Ohwovoriole (SAN) who is leading the prosecution, said the state was fully prepared to prosecute the case.
"The defendants have been arraigned and have taken their pleas, as they are entitled to do," he said.
"They pleaded not guilty, but our case is very straightforward. Nobody has the right to make himself the accuser, the judge and the executioner."
Describing the incident as "abhorrent," the Attorney-General assured the public that the prosecution would pursue the matter diligently.
"We are fully prepared for the trial. I assure the public that justice will be served," he added.
Counsel to two of the defendants, C. Promise, also confirmed his clients readiness for trial.
"They have taken their pleas and the matter has been adjourned to July 14. We will return to court on that date for the trial," he said.
Ogidi was fatally shot on April 26, 2026, at the Effurun Main Motor Park in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State after he was reportedly apprehended while attempting to send a parcel allegedly containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition to a recipient in Sapele.
According to the prosecution, the musician had been restrained with his hands tied behind his back when he was allegedly shot with an AK-47 rifle by former ASP Usman Nuhu in full public view.
The incident, captured in a viral video that circulated widely on social media, sparked nationwide outrage and renewed calls for accountability over allegations of extrajudicial killings by security operatives.
