Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspected members of the Aye Confraternity during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Ago/Festac Bridge axis of the state, recovering weapons, charms, electronic devices and other items.

The command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Adebisi, the operation began when police officers intercepted a vehicle carrying Emmanuel John and David Godwin during a routine search. She said officers recovered substances suspected to be hard drugs from the two suspects.

"During preliminary interrogation, both suspects confessed to being members of the Aye Confraternity," Adebisi said.

The police spokesperson said further investigation led operatives to arrest three additional suspects identified as Samuel Owubokiri, Adetona Seyi, and David Chigozie. She said all five suspects allegedly admitted to belonging to the outlawed cult group.

According to the police, items recovered from the suspects include: Military camouflage, two machetes, one battle axe, one knife, 500 SIM cards, five mobile phones, five laptops and charms. The recovered items have been taken into police custody as exhibits while investigations continue.

Adebisi quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, as reaffirming the command's commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes across Lagos State.

The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support crime prevention and improve public safety.

He also encouraged members of the public to report emergencies or suspicious activities through the Lagos State Police Command's emergency lines as the command intensifies efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the state.
