
Pope Leo Appoints Two Nigerians to Key Vatican Offices

Pope Leo XIV has appointed two Nigerian Catholic leaders to influential positions within the Vatican's Dicastery for Evangelization, marking another milestone for the Nigerian Church and underscoring Africa's growing influence in global Catholic leadership.
According to the Fides News Agency, Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins of the Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos has been appointed a member of the Dicastery for Evangelization, one of the Holy See's principal departments responsible for coordinating the Church's global missionary activities.
The Pope also appointed Father Wenceslaus C. Madu, Vice-Chancellor of the Claretian University of Nigeria in Nekede, Imo State, as a consultor to the same dicastery.
The Dicastery for Evangelization plays a central role in advancing the Catholic Church's missionary mandate, overseeing efforts to spread the Christian faith, establish new local churches and support Catholic communities, particularly in regions where the Church is still developing.
As a member of the dicastery, Archbishop Martins will participate in deliberations and decision-making on policies guiding the Church's evangelization mission worldwide.
