‘Christopher Musa Remains in Office,’ FG Rejects Viral Resignation Claims

The Federal Government has dismissed as false and misleading reports circulating on social media alleging that the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), is planning to resign from office.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Office of the Minister described the claims as "malicious" and "entirely fabricated," insisting that the Defence Minister remains fully in office and continues to discharge his constitutional responsibilities.

The statement, titled "False Rumour Regarding the Honourable Minister of Defence," was signed by the Minister's Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde.

According to the statement, the ministry's attention was drawn to reports circulating online claiming that General Musa had expressed an intention to step down from his position.

The ministry rejected the reports in their entirety, stating that there was no truth whatsoever to the claims.

"We wish to state unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms that these rumours are absolute falsehoods borne out of complete mischief," the statement read.

The Federal Government stressed that General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd.), OFR, remains focused on delivering the mandate entrusted to him by President Bola Tinubu and continues to oversee the implementation of the administration's national defence and security agenda.

According to the statement, the minister remains committed to strengthening Nigeria's defence architecture, supporting the Armed Forces and coordinating ongoing efforts to address the country's security challenges.

The ministry urged Nigerians to disregard the reports, describing them as fake news designed to misinform the public.

It also called on media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information through official government channels before publishing or sharing reports relating to the Defence Minister or other matters of national importance.

"The general public is hereby urged to disregard this fake news. We strongly advise media outlets and internet users to desist from spreading unverified information and to seek clarification from the office on matters concerning the Minister," the statement added.

The Federal Government reiterated that General Christopher Musa remains the Minister of Defence and continues to carry out his official responsibilities, urging the public not to be distracted by what it described as unfounded speculation circulating online.
