Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has reunited with Colombian music icon Shakira ahead of their highly anticipated performance at the inaugural FIFA World Cup final halftime show on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States.

The Grammy Award-winning singer shared a video and a collection of rehearsal photos on his official X account on Friday, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at preparations for what will be the first halftime entertainment show in FIFA World Cup final history.

The footage captured Burna Boy and Shakira exchanging hugs, smiles and laughter outside production trailers before rehearsing for the landmark performance.

Accompanying the post, Burna Boy wrote: "Sunday Prep! @shakira See you at the @FIFAWorldCup Final! Dai dai, iko, dale, allez, let's go!"

The reunion comes after FIFA confirmed that Burna Boy and Shakira will perform Dai Dai, the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, during the competition's inaugural Super Bowl-style halftime show.

The performance marks a historic first for the World Cup, with FIFA introducing a dedicated halftime entertainment segment for the tournament's showpiece match.

To accommodate the spectacle, the traditional 15-minute halftime interval is expected to be extended to about 30 minutes. The additional time will allow for the usual television analysis while creating space for an approximately 11-minute live musical performance by Burna Boy and Shakira.

FIFA has also assembled a star-studded lineup for the event. Alongside Burna Boy and Shakira, the halftime show will feature performances and appearances by BTS, Madonna, Justin Bieber, acclaimed Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the PS22 Chorus with Coldplay, as well as popular children's characters from Sesame Street and The Muppets.

Beyond the entertainment, FIFA said the halftime production will also promote global education initiatives aimed at improving opportunities for children around the world.

Sunday's World Cup final will see reigning Copa América champions Argentina take on European champions Spain in one of the most anticipated fixtures of the tournament.
