United States President Donald Trump has urged FIFA to award another men's FIFA World Cup to the United States, saying any future tournament hosted by America should be staged without Canada and Mexico.

Trump made the remarks on Friday during a FIFA World Cup reception at Trump Tower in New York ahead of Sunday's 2026 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, where he addressed FIFA President Gianni Infantino and guests attending the event.

The US President praised the ongoing tournament before making a fresh pitch for America to host another edition of football's biggest competition.

"You should choose the United States of America again. This time we will leave Canada and Mexico out," Trump said.

The United States is currently co-hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico, making it the first edition of the men's tournament to be jointly hosted by three countries.

Trump also suggested that FIFA should award the next available tournament to another nation before bringing the competition back to the United States.

"Pick somebody else for the next one, and that will take some of the anger, hatred and steam out of everyone," he added.

The President further revealed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had previously floated the idea of a future World Cup jointly hosted by the United States and China.

"But Gianni also had another idea. He said we could do China and United States, so you have a nice short flight between games. The players would love that," Trump said.

Attention has already begun shifting to the race for the 2038 FIFA World Cup, the next men's tournament yet to be awarded.

FIFA has already confirmed that the 2030 World Cup will be hosted by Spain, Portugal and Morocco, with the opening matches taking place in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay to mark the competition's centenary celebrations.

Saudi Arabia will stage the 2034 FIFA World Cup after securing hosting rights.

Under FIFA's continental rotation policy, member associations from North America and Oceania are expected to be eligible to bid for the 2038 tournament, with the formal bidding process set to begin in the coming years.

Trump's latest comments add a political dimension to future World Cup hosting discussions, although FIFA has not indicated whether the United States intends to pursue another bid after the conclusion of the 2026 tournament.

The remarks came just days before the World Cup reaches its climax with Argentina defending their title against Spain in Sunday's final.
