Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has become the first African artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart, marking another landmark achievement for African music on the international stage.
The Grammy Award-winning singer reached the summit with "Dai Dai," the official FIFA World Cup collaboration featuring Colombian music icon Shakira. The song climbed to the top of this week's Billboard Global 200, making Burna Boy the first African artist to achieve the feat since the chart's launch.
The historic milestone further cements Burna Boy's position as one of Africa's most influential global music stars and underscores the growing international appeal of Afrobeats.
In addition to leading the Billboard Global 200, "Dai Dai" also claimed the No. 1 position on the Billboard Global 200 Excl. U.S. chart, demonstrating the song's widespread popularity across international markets.
The track also continued to gain momentum in the United States, rising 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, extending Burna Boy's success in one of the world's most competitive music markets.
The achievement adds another milestone to Burna Boy's decorated career, which has seen him earn a Grammy Award, headline major international festivals and stadiums, and become one of Africa's biggest musical exports.
The success of "Dai Dai" comes shortly after Burna Boy was announced as one of the headline performers for the FIFA World Cup halftime show, joining an elite list of global artists associated with football's biggest tournament.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian singer Tems also continued her impressive chart run in the United States.
Her hit single, "What You Need," climbed five places to reach a new peak of No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it has now spent 15 weeks.
The song recently reached No. 1 on both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making Tems the first solo African artist to achieve both milestones.
The latest chart successes by Burna Boy and Tems highlight the continued global rise of Nigerian music, with Afrobeats artists increasingly dominating international charts, streaming platforms and major music markets.
