The Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed has announced former Cross River State governorship candidate, Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, during the collation and presentation of the PDP presidential primary results.

Chairman of the party’s Presidential Primaries Collation Committee and former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, formally declared Onor as the party’s consensus choice for the 2027 presidential race.

According to members of the committee, the emergence of Onor followed consultations and voice votes conducted among party stakeholders and members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Onor reportedly emerged as the sole presidential aspirant after purchasing and submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms earlier this month.

Speaking during the exercise, Ortom said the committee engaged extensively with party leaders and members nationwide before arriving at a consensus decision.

“We have consulted widely across the states and among stakeholders of the party and after the necessary deliberations, Senator Sandy Onor has emerged as the consensus presidential candidate of our great party for the 2027 general election,” Ortom stated.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus, monitored the exercise at the party’s national secretariat.

Following the declaration, the PDP leadership presented Onor with the party’s flag and certificate of return as its presidential candidate.

The development marks a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election as political parties across the country continue internal consultations and primary processes ahead of the polls.
