The Katsina State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing campaign against organised crime following the arrest of a suspected notorious drug dealer and the dismantling of a four-man armed robbery syndicate operating in Funtua and surrounding communities.
The operation, which led to the recovery of suspected narcotics, weapons, stolen property and cash, is being viewed by security authorities as a significant step in efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Katsina. According to the police, operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested a 22-year-old suspect identified as Aliyu Umar, popularly known as “Makami,” during a raid in the Jabiri area of Funtua Local Government Area.
Investigators believe the suspect plays a central role in a drug trafficking network operating within the community. Items recovered from him reportedly include 38 Exol tablets, 28 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and a knife.
Police authorities said investigations are continuing to identify other members of the alleged network and determine the full extent of its operations.
In a separate operation, officers attached to the Makera Police Division arrested three suspects believed to be members of a notorious armed robbery gang linked to a series of crimes across Funtua.
The suspects were identified as Salim Umar, also known as “Dan Salim”, Yusuf Mustapha, nicknamed “Tatto” and Gaddafi Idris, popularly called “One Love.” According to police records, the suspects were arrested following intelligence reports that placed them in the Makera area.
A search conducted after their arrest yielded a significant cache of items allegedly used in criminal activities. Recovered exhibits included long knives, machetes, scissors, torchlights, multiple mobile phones, ATM cards, SIM cards, a power bank, a wristwatch, a computer charger, criminal charms, keys and cash.
Investigators believe the items may be linked to a series of robbery operations carried out across the area. Police said investigations have already connected the suspects to several reported crimes.
One victim, Ibrahim Mustapha, reportedly identified members of the gang as those responsible for breaking into his shop along Bishir Idris Road and stealing valuables and cash.
The suspects have also been linked to the robbery of another resident, Salisu Ibrahim, whose Boxer motorcycle valued at approximately N1.1 million was allegedly stolen by the gang.
The latest arrests underscore the police command’s renewed determination to disrupt criminal networks and improve security across Katsina State.
Authorities say intelligence-led operations will continue as part of efforts to tackle armed robbery, drug trafficking and other forms of organised crime.
Security experts note that the connection between drug trafficking and violent crime remains a major concern across several communities, making coordinated enforcement efforts increasingly important.
Police have assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that additional arrests may follow as operatives pursue other suspects believed to be connected to the criminal networks.
