The House of Representatives has summoned Nigeria’s top security officials and key government ministers to appear before lawmakers and provide details of funds released to security agencies within the last six months.

Those invited include the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, Service Chiefs, Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu, Director-General of the Department of State Services Adeola Ajayi, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Taiwo Oyedele and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency Mohammed Mohammed.

The resolution followed growing concerns over worsening insecurity across several parts of the country.

Lawmakers also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the recruitment of forest guards in states battling insecurity, similar to measures recently introduced in Oyo State.

The decision comes amid public outrage over recent mass abductions involving students and teachers in Oyo and Borno states.

Members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers have staged nationwide protests demanding the rescue of abducted pupils and educators, while civil society groups continue to mount pressure on government to strengthen security measures.

The House said transparency in security spending remains essential as the nation grapples with escalating kidnappings, banditry and terrorist attacks.

Lawmakers are expected to use the session to assess the effectiveness of government expenditure on security and evaluate ongoing efforts to secure the release of abducted victims.
