Senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi, has called on security agencies to publicly parade and prosecute those arrested in connection with the abduction of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Ningi made the call following the rescue of the victims, who spent more than 50 days in captivity before regaining their freedom last Friday through a joint security operation.
The abductees included pupils and teachers from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, LA Primary School, and Community Grammar School in Oriire Local Government Area.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, the lawmaker stressed that those arrested must face justice without delay, warning that prolonged prosecution could undermine public confidence in the justice system.
"What is important going forward now is to take a cue. Now we have people arrested, they must be paraded, prosecuted and let the law take its full course.
"Delayed prosecution will create another impression that something is wrong. I therefore call on the security agency to prosecute, parade, and use them as an example," Ningi said.
