Rhodes-Vivour Secures ADC Governorship Ticket in Lagos Ahead of 2027 Poll

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress for the 2027 Lagos State election.

 Rhodes-Vivour secured the party’s ticket after defeating fellow aspirant, Owolabi Salis, in the ADC governorship primary election held in Lagos.

He polled 12,948 votes to emerge winner, while Salis garnered 6,183 votes.

 Announcing the result, the chairman of the Lagos State ADC governorship primary election committee, Oladimeji Fabiyi, formally declared Rhodes-Vivour as the party’s duly elected candidate.

 “By the power conferred on me by the laws and regulations guiding the conduct of this primary election, I hereby declare Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as the elected governorship candidate of our party,” Fabiyi stated. 

Speaking shortly after his victory, Rhodes-Vivour expressed appreciation to party members, supporters and delegates for the confidence reposed in him.

He described the outcome of the primary as a collective victory for Lagosians yearning for a new direction and more accountable governance.

“I want to sincerely thank every supporter who rallied around this movement and came out en masse to vote. This victory belongs to all of us who believe in a better future,” he said.

The politician added that his emergence marks the beginning of a renewed push toward transformational leadership in Lagos State. “The work has only just begun. Together, we will continue to build a movement that represents hope, progress and accountable leadership for our people,” he added.

Rhodes-Vivour, who was one of the prominent opposition figures in the 2023 Lagos governorship election, has continued to maintain strong support among young voters, civil society groups and reform advocates in the state.

 Political observers believe his emergence under the ADC could reshape opposition dynamics ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
