Operatives of Zone 2 Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested a Lagos-based businessman, Ekeh Henry Ifeanyi, over alleged involvement in a large-scale illicit drug trafficking operation concealed behind a point-of-sale receipt paper business.

The suspect was arrested following months of surveillance by police operatives who reportedly tracked his activities after receiving intelligence reports linking him to the trafficking of Canadian Loud, a highly potent strain of cannabis.

The arrest was made public during an inspection of the suspect’s apartment at Arowojobe Estate in Maryland, Lagos, led by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Moshood Jimoh.

During the operation, police recovered cartons of PoS receipt printing papers stacked inside one section of the apartment, while bags containing suspected cannabis were discovered in another room deeper within the building.

The discovery reportedly shocked residents of the estate, many of whom expressed disbelief over the alleged activities taking place within the quiet residential environment.

Addressing journalists at the scene, AIG Jimoh said police operatives had maintained close surveillance on the suspect for several months before successfully arresting him on May 19.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly used the PoS paper business as a front to avoid attracting suspicion while conducting illegal drug operations.

Jimoh further alleged that the suspect drove vehicles bearing fake number plates with the inscription “Presidency, NYCN” in an attempt to evade security checks and law enforcement scrutiny.“For several months, we intensified our surveillance around him. On 19th May, 2026, we were successful,” the AIG stated.

Police disclosed that a total of 425 bags of Canadian Loud, estimated to be worth about ₦7 billion, were recovered during the raid.

The police boss said investigations had expanded beyond the suspect to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the trafficking network and distribution chain “We are going further to investigate those who collaborated with him at every level to get these illicit drugs into the country,” Jimoh added.

According to the police, significant progress has already been made in tracking other suspected distributors connected to the operation.

When questioned by journalists, the suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the seized drugs and claimed he supplied the substance to individuals involved in distribution across neighbouring countries.

The case adds to growing concerns over the rising sophistication of illicit drug trafficking networks operating within major Nigerian cities.
