PFIPC Fraud Case: Adeyemi Absent as Eight-Count Charge Comes Up in Court

The arraignment of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of parading himself as the Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), was stalled on Tuesday after he failed to appear before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Adeyemi was scheduled to appear before Justice Mohammed Umar over an eight-count charge bordering on forgery, fraud and impersonation in a case marked FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025.
The matter was listed for hearing, but when the case was called, the defendant was absent from court despite being listed as the 12th matter on the day’s cause list.
His failure to appear has created uncertainty over the immediate commencement of the trial, with indications that the Inspector-General of Police, who is prosecuting the case, may apply for a bench warrant to compel his appearance.
The charges against Adeyemi and two other defendants were filed on November 27, 2025, by police prosecutor Wisdom Madaki.
Adeyemi is accused of allegedly using forged documents to present himself as the head of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, an organisation authorities have described as non-existent.
The case forms part of the wider controversy surrounding the alleged fake government agency, which reportedly secured office space and gained access to government structures despite having no established legal backing.
Among those expected to testify during the proceedings are the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Paul Emmanuel; Jeremiah Imoukhede; and Ituah Sylvester.
Other witnesses listed by the prosecution include officials from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, including Akimbo Shola and Adamu Balogun, as well as a Deputy Superintendent of Police.
The alleged PFIPC scandal has attracted public attention following claims that a fictitious agency was able to operate within government structures and was linked to budgetary and financial activities.
The legal process is expected to determine the allegations against Adeyemi, while authorities continue investigations into possible institutional failures that may have allowed the alleged scheme to operate.
