Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Imo East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Madumere emerged through a consensus arrangement during the PDP senatorial primary election held at the party’s state secretariat in Owerri.

Party leaders described the process as a demonstration of unity and growing cohesion within the PDP in Imo State.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the primary election and commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.

Speaking after his emergence, Madumere thanked God, party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him, describing the victory as a triumph for unity, experience and purposeful leadership.

“I assure you today that I will not disappoint you. I remain committed to quality representation that will attract development, empower our youths, support our women and restore the voice and dignity of Owerri Zone at the national level,” he stated.

The former deputy governor also expressed appreciation to the National Working Committee of the PDP and acknowledged the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, for his efforts in strengthening the PDP nationally.

Madumere equally commended the Imo State Working Committee led by the PDP Chairman in the state, Austin Nwachukwu, alongside stakeholders, women and youths across Owerri Zone for supporting his candidacy.

He called on aggrieved aspirants and party members to embrace reconciliation and work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the PDP also congratulated its three senatorial candidates following the successful conduct of the party primaries across the state.

The party confirmed Jones Onyereri as candidate for Imo West Senatorial District, Mike Duru Ejiogu for Imo North Senatorial District, and Eze Madumere for Imo East Senatorial District.

According to the party, Onyereri, a former two-term member of the House of Representatives and PDP deputy governorship candidate in the 2023 governorship election, remains a seasoned politician with strong grassroots appeal across Orlu Zone.

The PDP also described Ejiogu as a respected industrialist, real estate entrepreneur and founding member of the party who has consistently championed youth empowerment initiatives across Okigwe Zone.

The party expressed confidence in the competence and political strength of its candidates, insisting that their emergence had further boosted the PDP’s chances ahead of the 2027 polls.
