Oyo Imposes 16-Hour Curfew In 10 LGAs Over Rising Security Threats

The Oyo State Government has announced a 16-hour curfew across 10 local government areas as part of intensified measures aimed at addressing security challenges in parts of the state.

The restriction, approved by Governor Seyi Makinde, will take effect from Wednesday, June 24, 2026, according to a directive issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

Under the directive, movement will be restricted daily from 4:00 p.m to 8:00 a.m for an initial period of 48 hours.

State authorities said the curfew is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security operations and prevent criminal activities in communities located around the Old Oyo National Park corridor, an area that has increasingly attracted security attention due to its vast forested terrain and strategic location.

The affected local government areas are:

Oriire Local Government Area (Ikoyi-Ile)

Orelope Local Government Area (Igboho)

Irepo Local Government Area (Kisi)

Saki West Local Government Area (Saki)

Saki East Local Government Area (Ago-Amodu)

Atisbo Local Government Area (Tede/Ago-Are)

Itesiwaju Local Government Area (Otu)

Iseyin Local Government Area (Iseyin)

Olorunsogo Local Government Area (Igbeti)

Atiba Local Government Area (Offa-Meta, Oyo)

The government said the curfew specifically targets local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park, where security agencies have been conducting operations aimed at preventing criminal elements from exploiting the forest environment.

While authorities did not provide further details on the immediate security concerns that prompted the measure, residents in the affected areas are expected to comply fully with the restriction and cooperate with security agencies.

The state government is expected to review the situation after the initial 48-hour period and determine whether the curfew should be extended, modified or lifted based on prevailing security assessments.

Officials have assured residents that security agencies will remain on ground to enforce the directive and maintain public safety throughout the duration of the curfew.
