The Oyo State Government has approved a series of major projects and financial interventions, including a ₦3 billion interest-free loan for an indigenous cassava processing factory, additional funding for the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport upgrade, investments in healthcare, road infrastructure, and support for Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC).
The decisions were reached during the council meeting held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Among the approvals is a ₦3 billion interest-free strategic intervention loan for a cassava processing factory in Ado-Awaye. According to the government, the facility, which produces cassava flour and other derivatives, is expected to benefit more than 25,000 farmers, create jobs and strengthen Oyo State's position as a leading cassava-producing state.
The council also approved an additional ₦2.462 billion equity investment for the commissioning and commencement of commercial operations at Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited. The state had earlier invested ₦850 million towards the revitalisation of the sugar processing factory in Iseyin.
Also approved was the construction of the 4-kilometre Idi-Igba/Akinmorin Road in Ilora at a cost of ₦2.9 billion to stimulate socio-economic development in the area.
The Executive Council further approved an additional ₦26.768 billion for the upgrade of the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport. The funding will cover additional works and the revised Bill of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME), including the construction of a 140-metre strip, runway safety area, blast pad, extra pipe covers and other ancillary infrastructure.
The council also approved a Healthcare Initiative Project to be financed through a €55 million French loan backed by the Federal Government. The project includes the modular construction and equipping of hospitals, including a Cardiac Centre, Emergency and Maternity Centres, Operating Theatres and Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
The healthcare initiative will also provide 39 ambulances, 10 dental centres, 200 Primary Healthcare Centres, and emergency and maternity facilities at hospitals in Igboora, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Moniya, Kishi, Iseyin, Okeho and Eruwa.
In the sports sector, the council approved an initial take-off grant of ₦200 million for Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) to support the club's campaign for continental success after a 27-year wait.
