Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Elected NBA President, Becomes Association's Second Female Leader

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, has been elected as the next President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), becoming only the second woman to lead the country's foremost association of legal practitioners.

Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious after polling 12,317 votes in the NBA's presidential election, defeating two other candidates in the keenly contested race.

According to the final results, she secured 47.18 per cent of the 26,106 valid votes cast during the election.

The election was conducted electronically over a 24-hour period, beginning at 7:35 a.m on Saturday and concluding at 7:34 a.m on Sunday.

Badejo-Okusanya was the only female candidate among the three contestants seeking to succeed the outgoing NBA president.

Her victory marks another milestone for the legal profession in Nigeria, making her the second woman to occupy the association's highest office since the NBA was founded.

The Nigerian Bar Association is the umbrella body for legal practitioners in Nigeria and plays a key role in promoting the rule of law, defending judicial independence and advocating reforms within the country's justice sector.
