The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the June 20, 2026, Ekiti State governorship election, Oluwole Oluyede, has begun consultations with the leadership of the party and his legal team over the outcome of the poll won by Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress.
In a statement, Oluyede said the consultations would determine his next course of action, while alleging that the election was marred by irregularities that should be investigated.
According to him, every decision regarding the election would be taken with due regard for democratic institutions.
"As someone who has great respect for the Office of the President and for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, every step we take after this election must be guided by wisdom, responsibility and respect for our democratic institutions.
"For that reason, I am currently consulting extensively with the leadership of our great party, my lawyers and members of my legal team. Those consultations are ongoing.
"At the appropriate time, I shall brief the good people of Ekiti State on the outcome of those consultations and the next steps regarding all matters arising from this election," he said.
Oluyede alleged that reports submitted by PDP polling agents across the state's 16 local government areas indicated incidents of voter intimidation, operational challenges involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), delayed accreditation, voter inducement and other irregularities.
Despite his reservations about the conduct of the election, the PDP candidate urged his supporters to remain peaceful while awaiting the outcome of the consultations.
"To every supporter who stood with us throughout this journey, let me assure you that your sacrifices were not in vain. You have strengthened my faith, renewed my hope and inspired my determination.
"I will never abandon you. I will continue to stand with you. I will continue to speak for you. I will continue to defend the interests of Ekiti State," he stated.
Oluyede also thanked the 40,543 voters officially credited to the PDP, saying their support demonstrated that many residents remained committed to democratic values and good governance.
He dismissed claims by unnamed politicians that the PDP had become irrelevant in Ekiti, insisting the election proved the party remained firmly rooted in the state.
"Without the support of any serving governor, former governor or influential national political leader, we built a movement driven solely by the courage, resilience and determination of ordinary Ekiti men and women.
"Today, I can proudly say that the people of Ekiti have answered those voices more eloquently than I ever could. They have proved that the Peoples Democratic Party remains alive and deeply rooted in the hearts of our people," he said.
Oluyede added that his participation in the governorship election was driven by a desire to restore hope, protect democratic choice and demonstrate that the future of Ekiti belongs to its people.
He also recalled that he had fought legal battles before the election to ensure the PDP remained on the ballot.
