No More 'Sign Out': Ekiti Govt Bans Post-Exam Celebrations in Secondary Schools

The Ekiti State Government has banned the practice popularly known as "Sign Out" in all public and private secondary schools, warning that students and schools that violate the directive will face sanctions.

The Ministry of Education announced the ban in a circular dated June 29, 2026 citing growing concerns over the unruly and indecent conduct associated with post-examination celebrations.

Signed by Mrs. Adenike Akinyemi on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, the circular said the ministry had observed a disturbing trend in which students, after completing their external examinations, splash ink on school uniforms, write on one another's clothes and engage in acts of harassment, molestation and other inappropriate behaviour.

"The act is unacceptable in all public and private schools in Ekiti State and will attract appropriate sanctions where it occurs," the circular stated.

To enforce the directive, the ministry instructed principals of public schools and proprietors of private schools to ensure strict compliance before, during and after the conclusion of external examinations.

School administrators were also directed to maintain discipline on their campuses, promote good conduct among students and give the directive the widest possible publicity.

The ban takes immediate effect as secondary schools across the state conclude this year's external examination sessions.

The government said the measure forms part of efforts to uphold discipline, preserve the values of the education system and prevent misconduct during end-of-school activities.
