NIPSS Attack: Shettima Visits Kuru As Police Announce Permanent Outpost

The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to establish a permanent police outpost at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, Plateau State, following the deadly attack that claimed the lives of two soldiers and a police officer earlier this week.

The decision was disclosed on Thursday by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training and Development, Isiaku Mohammed, during a visit to the institute on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Mohammed, who led a high-powered police delegation to commiserate with the NIPSS community, said the permanent outpost would strengthen security around the institution and reassure staff, residents and course participants of their safety.

The announcement came as Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the institute on Friday to assess the situation and convey the condolences of the Federal Government to the families of the fallen security personnel.

During the visit, Shettima toured the scene of the attack, where gunmen breached the institute's perimeter fence in the early hours of Tuesday and opened fire on security personnel on duty.

He later met with the NIPSS management, members of the institute's community and participants of the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, reaffirming the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening security at the country's foremost policy and leadership institution.

The attack has heightened concerns over the security of strategic national institutions and prompted an increased security presence around the Kuru-based facility.

Authorities said investigations into the incident are ongoing as security agencies continue efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The Federal Government has assured the NIPSS community that additional measures are being implemented to prevent future attacks and guarantee the safety of lives and property within the institution.

NIPSS is Nigeria's premier policy think tank and leadership training institution, providing strategic policy research and executive training for senior public and private sector officials.
