The Kaduna State Government has approved a contract worth more than ₦2.8 billion for the remodelling, upgrading and equipping of Gambo Sawaba General Hospital in Zaria as part of its ongoing healthcare infrastructure renewal programme.
The government said the project is aimed at expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services for residents across the state.
The announcement was made by the spokesman to Governor Uba Sani, Ibraheem Musa, who said the hospital upgrade forms part of the administration's broader efforts to modernise public healthcare facilities.
According to Musa, the state government is currently remodelling and re-equipping 16 general hospitals across 23 local government areas to improve healthcare delivery.
He disclosed that work has already been completed at several facilities, including the General Hospitals in Sabon Tasha, Saminaka, Kachia, Kawo and Makarfi, as well as Limi General Hospital in Sabon Gari Local Government Area.
Musa also highlighted other healthcare projects undertaken by the administration, noting that Governor Uba Sani recently inaugurated a 300-bed specialist hospital in Millennium City.
In addition, he said the government has upgraded 255 Primary Healthcare Centres across the state to Level Two status to improve access to essential healthcare services at the grassroots.
According to the governor's spokesman, the comprehensive hospital upgrade programme reflects the administration's commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, improving service delivery and ensuring residents have access to modern, well-equipped medical facilities across Kaduna State.
