Former Senator Iyabo Obasanjo has officially returned to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State and has been presented with the party’s flag for the Ogun Central senatorial district, effectively positioning her as the party’s candidate for the 2027 general elections.

She was received at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta on Wednesday by party leaders and supporters, who welcomed her back into the party where she previously served as senator between 2007 and 2011.

Speaking at the event, Obasanjo pledged allegiance to the PDP constitution, manifesto and code of conduct, promising to prioritise public welfare if elected.

“I shall prioritise the welfare of the people above personal and sectional interests,” she said.

She also pledged to uphold the ideals of the party, describing her return as a renewed commitment to public service.

Party leaders, including Ogun PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella, described her as a valuable addition to the party’s political structure, while governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu expressed confidence in her capacity to contribute to the PDP’s electoral strength.

Obasanjo had earlier left the APC after a brief stint in the party, following an unsuccessful governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
