The Imo State Police Command has commenced a two-day intensive training programme on forensic and fraud investigations for more than 300 officers as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening investigative capacity within the Nigeria Police Force.
The training, organised under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, is focused on equipping officers with modern forensic techniques, intelligence-led policing strategies and improved methods for tackling fraud, financial crimes and other emerging security threats.
The programme, which brought together officers from different formations, divisions and tactical units across Imo State, also seeks to improve evidence-based investigations, financial intelligence handling and inter-agency collaboration in criminal investigations.
Declaring the training open, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Audu Garba Bosso, stressed the importance of continuous professional development in modern policing.
According to him, contemporary security challenges require officers who are equipped with advanced investigative knowledge, forensic skills and the capacity to handle complex criminal cases using technology-driven methods.
The police commissioner appreciated the Inspector-General of Police for what he described as sustained support towards capacity building and institutional reforms within the Force.
Bosso also commended Her Royal Highness, Pearl Chidima Ogbulu, who led the delegation from Force Headquarters, for her contributions towards strengthening investigative competence within the Nigeria Police Force.
In her goodwill message, Ogbulu applauded the Inspector-General for prioritising training and institutional development within the Force, urging participants to maximise the opportunity and uphold professionalism and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.
The training featured lectures and presentations by seasoned facilitators and experts in forensic investigations and financial crime management.
Professor S.A.S Aries delivered a lecture on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), terrorist financing and collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), with emphasis on identifying illicit financial flows and strengthening coordination among relevant agencies.
Another resource person, Rev. Dr. Uzoamaka Uhuegbu, spoke on financial investigations, focusing on investigative procedures, handling of evidence and best practices in prosecuting financial crimes.
Bosso charged participants to pay close attention throughout the sessions and ensure practical application of the knowledge acquired during the training.
He noted that improved investigative competence among officers would enhance operational effectiveness, strengthen public confidence and improve policing outcomes across the state.
The Imo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to strategic partnerships, continuous training and institutional capacity development aimed at promoting peace, security and public trust across the state.
