Security authorities are investigating a reported attack on a Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, after suspected gunmen allegedly stormed the facility and made away with firearms belonging to officers on duty.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10 p.m. on Tuesday at the immigration office located along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Motorway near the NNPC filling station.
According to sources familiar with the incident, the attackers arrived at the facility while commercial activities were still ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market. Witnesses said the assailants overpowered personnel stationed at the office before seizing firearms and fleeing the scene under the cover of darkness.
The exact number and type of weapons allegedly taken during the operation could not be independently verified as of press time. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security of government facilities and the increasing boldness of criminal elements targeting law enforcement and security agencies.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he had not yet received an official briefing regarding the reported attack.
“I have not been briefed on the incident at this time. I will provide updates as soon as the necessary information becomes available,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor other relevant authorities had issued an official statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Security operatives are expected to review available intelligence and determine how the attackers gained access to the facility and escaped with the reported weapons.
Residents in the area have called for increased security presence and enhanced protection for public institutions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Investigations are ongoing.
