Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede has called on members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain committed to sacrifice, patriotism and national unity as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
In a goodwill message released to mark the 2026 Eid celebration, the defence chief congratulated military personnel, their families and Nigerians nationwide, describing the festival as a powerful reminder of faith, obedience and selfless service to humanity. Oluyede said the enduring lessons from the life of Prophet Ibrahim underscore the importance of national loyalty, mutual sacrifice and collective responsibility in preserving peace and stability across the country.
“The values exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim remind us of the need for love of country, sacrifice for one another and commitment to national peace,” he stated.
The defence chief paid tribute to Nigerian troops deployed across various theatres of operation, commending their resilience and dedication amid ongoing security operations against insurgency, banditry and other threats. “We remember with pride our gallant troops who continue to make enormous sacrifices to ensure a peaceful and secure Nigeria,” he said.
Oluyede also acknowledged the role of other security and intelligence agencies, noting that sustained inter-agency collaboration remains vital to addressing the country’s complex security challenges. He reaffirmed the commitment of the armed forces to restoring peace and safeguarding territorial integrity through what he described as a “whole-of-government approach” to national security.
The defence chief further expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continued support to the military and ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening operational capacity across the armed forces.
He urged Nigerians to continue supporting security personnel through cooperation, public vigilance and prayers, particularly for troops operating in volatile regions of the country. Oluyede also prayed for enduring peace, unity and prosperity across Nigeria, while wishing citizens a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
His message comes amid intensified military operations in parts of the North-East, North-West and North-Central regions where security agencies continue efforts to combat insurgency, kidnapping and organised criminal activities.
