Mohamed Salah starred as Egypt came from behind to defeat New Zealand 3-1 and record the first World Cup victory in the nation's history.

New Zealand took the lead in the 15th minute when Finn Surman headed home from Tim Payne's corner, giving the All Whites hope of a breakthrough win on football's biggest stage.
But Egypt responded strongly after the break.

Mostafa Zico levelled in the 58th minute, heading in Mohamed Hany's cross before Salah completed the turnaround with a composed finish after exchanging passes with Zico inside the penalty area.

Substitute Trezeguet sealed the victory in the 82nd minute, heading home from Salah's corner to cap a memorable night for the Pharaohs.
The result moved Egypt to the top of Group G and left them on the verge of reaching the World Cup knockout stage for the first time.

A victory over Iran in their final group match would secure top spot in the group.
New Zealand, meanwhile, remain without a World Cup win and must now beat Belgium in their final game to keep their qualification hopes alive.
