The Delta State Police Command has arrested 202 suspects during a coordinated raid on identified criminal hideouts, black spots, brothels and suspected illicit drug dens across the Asaba metropolis.

The operation, conducted on Saturday, July 4, was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, alongside other officers of the command.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operation was launched following credible intelligence provided by the State Intelligence Department (SID).

Edafe said a total of 202 suspects comprising 102 males and 100 females were arrested during the exercise.

He said the suspects are being investigated for various alleged offences, including operating brothels, possession and sale of illicit drugs as well as other related criminal activities.

The police spokesman added that the operation also targeted traffic and regulatory violations across the state.

According to him, operatives impounded five vehicles, 10 tricycles and 10 motorcycles for violating traffic regulations, the state government's restriction on tricycle operations and the ban on motorcycles in designated areas.

Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command's commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven policing and proactive enforcement operations to combat criminal activities across the state.

He said the command would continue to intensify efforts to rid Delta State of crime while ensuring the safety and security of residents.

Police did not immediately disclose whether any of the arrested suspects had been formally charged, saying investigations are ongoing.
