Davido Calls for Therapy Centres for Celebrities, Warns Fame’s Pressure Can Take a Toll

Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called for the establishment of therapy centres dedicated to helping celebrities and other high-profile individuals cope with the psychological pressures that come with fame and success.

The singer raised concerns about the mental health challenges faced by public figures, saying the transition from being celebrated at the peak of success to facing criticism and public rejection can be difficult to manage.

In a recent interview, Davido said entertainers and other successful personalities often deal with intense expectations from fans, the media and the public, which can affect their emotional well-being.

He referenced the experience of football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that even athletes who have achieved extraordinary success continue to face criticism when results do not meet public expectations.

“Even in football, you win the World Cup, the Champions League, and other trophies, and people still don’t think it is enough. For instance, look at my good friend Ronaldo – after everything he’s done for football, they still laughed at him for exiting the World Cup,” Davido said.

The award-winning singer also spoke about the responsibility of protecting his career and reputation after years of hard work.

Davido said one of his biggest concerns is making decisions that could damage the legacy he has built over time.

“That is my greatest fear. I have worked so hard for myself to come and spoil it with something. I pray to God every day to show me the right time,” he said.

The singer argued that celebrities often lack adequate support systems to help them navigate the emotional challenges that come with fame, including public scrutiny, pressure to remain relevant and the fear of losing their position.

He proposed the creation of specialised therapy centres where successful individuals could receive professional support.

“If there is one thing I could build, I would build a therapy centre for people who were popular and very successful people. Because it is crazy to be on top of the world and the next moment you are not,” he said.

Davido’s comments highlight growing conversations around mental health in the entertainment industry, where public figures are increasingly speaking about the pressures associated with constant visibility, expectations and maintaining success.
