Customs Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Notice Circulating Online

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned Nigerians, particularly job seekers, against a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media platforms and falsely presented as an official announcement from the service.

The warning followed the emergence of a purported recruitment update dated July 22, 2026, which carried the NCS logo and claimed that the service would commence another phase of recruitment screening on Monday, August 3, 2026.

The notice, which contained several grammatical errors, allegedly directed prospective applicants to report to designated screening centres across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

It further instructed candidates to appear for the purported exercise in plain white shirts, while advising them to keep their footwear and other accessories simple and professional.

However, the Nigeria Customs Service has categorically denied issuing the notice, describing it as fake and warning members of the public not to act on the information.

In a notice shared on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, the service said the purported recruitment update did not originate from the NCS and should be disregarded.

“The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) wishes to inform the public that the purported recruitment update currently circulating on some social media platforms is fake and did not originate from the Service,” the statement said.

The service urged members of the public to exercise caution and rely exclusively on information released through its official communication platforms for authentic updates concerning recruitment and other activities.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard the publication and rely only on information disseminated through the official communication channels of the Nigeria Customs Service,” the NCS added.

The warning comes amid the continued circulation of fraudulent recruitment announcements online, a trend that often targets unemployed Nigerians and other job seekers with promises of employment in government agencies.

The fake Customs notice could potentially mislead applicants into attending non-existent screening exercises or, in some cases, expose them to recruitment-related scams involving the payment of money or the submission of sensitive personal information.

The NCS therefore advised prospective applicants to verify any recruitment information before taking action and to be wary of unofficial notices shared through unverified social media accounts, messaging platforms and other informal channels.

For authentic information, the service directed members of the public to its verified social media platforms, including its official Facebook page, Instagram account at @customsng, X (formerly Twitter) account at @customsng, Threads account at @customsng and TikTok account at @customsng.

The service's clarification effectively puts to rest the claim contained in the circulating notice that a new phase of recruitment screening would begin on August 3, 2026.

The NCS urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and avoid relying on recruitment announcements that are not published through its recognised official communication channels.
