CBN Redeploys Four Deputy Governors in Major Leadership Reshuffle

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has carried out a significant leadership reshuffle, reassigning all four of its deputy governors in a move aimed at strengthening institutional coordination and improving operational efficiency across key departments.

The changes, which officially took effect on June 1, 2026, were reflected in updated profiles published on the apex bank’s official website. Under the new arrangement, Philip Ikeazor has been moved to Head the Policy Directorate, taking over responsibilities previously overseen by Dr Muhammad Abdullahi. Abdullahi, in turn, has been reassigned to the Corporate Services Directorate.

Another major change sees Emem Usoro, formerly Deputy Governor in charge of Corporate Services, transferred to oversee the Operations Directorate. Lamido Yuguda has also been redeployed from Operations to the Financial System Stability Directorate.

The restructuring affects some of the most critical departments within the apex bank and comes at a time when Nigeria’s financial sector continues to navigate economic reforms, inflationary pressures and evolving regulatory demands.

In a brief explanation accompanying the changes, the bank said the redeployments were intended to leverage the expertise of senior officials across different areas of responsibility while supporting the institution’s strategic objectives.

According to the CBN, the exercise is expected to enhance collaboration among directorates, strengthen policy implementation and ensure that the experience of top management officials is effectively deployed where it is most needed. The move underscores the bank’s continuing efforts to position itself for emerging economic realities while maintaining stability within the nation’s financial system.

Analysts say periodic leadership realignments are common among central banks globally and often serve as a mechanism for strengthening institutional performance, deepening oversight and bringing fresh perspectives to critical areas of governance.

The redeployment does not affect the tenure of the deputy governors, who remain key members of the CBN’s top management team under Governor Olayemi Cardoso.
