
Alexx Ekubo to Be Buried June 18 in Abia State

The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has officially announced the funeral arrangements for the celebrated movie star, who died at the age of 40 after months of illness.
In a heartfelt statement posted on the actor’s official Instagram page on Monday, the family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received from friends, fans, colleagues and well-wishers since news of his death broke. Describing the actor as a man whose life touched countless people, the family said his legacy of kindness, compassion and faith would remain unforgettable.
“With profound sorrow, yet gratitude to God for a life so beautifully lived and deeply impactful, we officially announce the funeral arrangements of our beloved husband, son, brother, friend and colleague, Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read.
The family added that the flood of prayers, condolence messages, visits and support during the mourning period had brought comfort in an extremely painful moment.
According to the funeral programme released by the family, a service of songs will hold on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Center, Lekki, Lagos, from 4pm to 6pm, with attendees expected to wear white.
The wake-keep is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
His funeral service and interment will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The family said the actor’s death came too soon but noted that he lived an impactful life filled with warmth, laughter and devotion to those around him. “His presence filled rooms, lifted hearts and created memories that will remain with us forever,” the statement added.
Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026, triggering widespread grief across Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
Actors, filmmakers, musicians, broadcasters and fans have continued to pay tribute to his contribution to Nollywood and the influence he had on many young creatives across Africa.
