Adeboye Remains Politically Neutral, Never Campaigned for Any Government — RCCG

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has firmly rejected claims that its General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has ever campaigned for any government or political party, insisting that the respected cleric has consistently maintained neutrality in partisan politics.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the church said Pastor Adeboye's position over the years has been to encourage Nigerians to participate in the democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and exercising their constitutional right to vote for candidates of their choice. According to the church, encouraging civic responsibility should not be mistaken for endorsing political parties or political office holders.
The RCCG also addressed claims that Pastor Adeboye once halted a planned protest, explaining that his comments at the time merely conveyed a directive issued by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) regarding changes to a national prayer programme and rally. The church noted that the PFN had instructed member churches to hold the grand finale of a three-day prayer programme at centralised venues and conduct rallies around those venues.
RCCG further dismissed allegations that Pastor Adeboye remains silent on national issues, stressing that he has repeatedly spoken on matters affecting the country, including insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance and the need for responsible leadership. The church said the cleric has traditionally approached such issues through moral instruction, prayers and spiritual counsel rather than partisan political confrontation.
"Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts," the statement noted.
The church urged bloggers, commentators and media organisations to verify claims involving Pastor Adeboye through official RCCG communication platforms before publication. According to the statement, any information not released or confirmed through the church's official channels should not be regarded as its official position.
The clarification comes amid growing public discussions about the role of religious leaders in Nigeria's political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
