The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally advanced its preparations for the 2027 general election after successfully uploading the nomination particulars of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.
The submission marks a key milestone in the party's electoral process, officially presenting its presidential ticket for the commission's verification and documentation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The development was announced on Tuesday night by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, who described the successful upload as another important step in the ADC's campaign to offer Nigerians what he called a credible alternative for national leadership.
"We are pleased to announce the successful upload of the names and particulars of our presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the INEC nomination portal," Abdullahi wrote on his official X handle.
According to him, the submission demonstrates the party's commitment to presenting a presidential ticket anchored on competence, national unity and renewal.
The upload comes days after Atiku secured the ADC presidential ticket in a keenly contested primary election conducted across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Results announced by the party showed that the former Vice-President polled 1,846,370 votes to defeat former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, who scored 504,117 votes, while businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen finished third with 177,120 votes.
Following the conclusion of the primary, the party moved to consolidate its campaign by naming Amaechi as Atiku's running mate after what it described as extensive consultations with party stakeholders and coalition partners.
Explaining the decision, Abdullahi said the choice of Amaechi followed broad consultations involving party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as representatives from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.
He noted that Amaechi's performance during the presidential primary, where he finished as runner-up, also strengthened his case for the vice-presidential nomination.
According to the party spokesman, the former Rivers State governor brings extensive legislative and executive experience that would complement Atiku's leadership credentials.
"Amaechi's emergence reflects his outstanding record of public service and his enduring appeal as one of Nigeria's most experienced political leaders," Abdullahi said.
The ADC said Amaechi's political career positions him as a strategic asset to the party's presidential campaign.
It highlighted his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, his subsequent two-term governorship of Rivers State, and his service as Minister of Transportation, where he oversaw major railway and transport infrastructure projects across the country.
The party argued that combining Atiku's experience in national politics with Amaechi's record in public administration creates a formidable ticket capable of addressing Nigeria's economic and governance challenges.
"The proposed partnership represents more than a political alliance; it is the coming together of two tested statesmen committed to national renewal," the party stated.
Beyond governance experience, the ADC said Amaechi's political influence across the South-South and other parts of Southern Nigeria would strengthen the ticket's national spread and electoral competitiveness.
Party officials believe the Atiku-Amaechi alliance positions the ADC to appeal to a broader cross-section of voters as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 polls.
The successful upload of the ticket to the INEC portal also indicates that the party has met another key requirement in the electoral timetable as it intensifies preparations for what is expected to be one of Nigeria's most closely contested presidential elections.
