19-Year-Old Allegedly Beaten to Death Over Missing ₦17,000 in Enugu Community

Tension has continued to rise in Amoka Village, Nru Nsukka, in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State following the alleged killing of a 19-year-old resident, Chiadikaobi Asadu under circumstances that have sparked widespread outrage.

The incident, which reportedly occurred on May 23 2026, has plunged the community into mourning amid allegations that the teenager was beaten to death by members of his extended family after being accused of stealing money belonging to his father.

According to community sources, Chiadikaobi was accused of taking ₦17,000 from his father to purchase a mobile phone. The teenager reportedly denied the allegation when confronted. Witnesses said his father initially disciplined him before allegedly enlisting the assistance of male relatives to continue the punishment.

Residents claimed the teenager was subsequently taken to a secluded location, tied to a tree and subjected to a prolonged assault that lasted several hours. A source familiar with the incident alleged that the victim was released later in the day and instructed to take a bath.

However, concern reportedly arose when family members could no longer get a response from him. They allegedly forced open the bathroom door and discovered him unconscious. He was later confirmed dead.

The incident has generated further controversy amid allegations that attempts were made to conceal the true circumstances surrounding his death.

According to sources, Chiadikaobi was buried the same day, with claims circulated that he had slipped in the bathroom after taking medication. Residents said the situation escalated further when security operatives arrived in the community the following day.

The deceased's father reportedly accused some local youths of involvement in the death, leading to a number of arrests and heightened tensions within the area. The situation reportedly required the intervention of military personnel, who advised law enforcement authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.
