Zamfara Residents Cheer Troops After Killing Over 100 Bandits, Recovering Motorcycles

Residents of Gummi town in Zamfara State on Thursday gave troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA a rousing reception as they returned from a successful counter-bandit operation that reportedly left more than 100 suspected bandits dead and resulted in the recovery of eight motorcycles used by the armed groups.

The troops, returning to their base after operations around Dutsen Gidan Hill, approximately 17 kilometres outside Gummi town in Gummi Local Government Area, were greeted by cheering residents who gathered in large numbers to celebrate the military's latest success against criminal gangs operating in the North-West.

Eyewitnesses said hundreds of residents lined major roads leading to the military base, applauding the soldiers, waving at their convoy and chanting words of encouragement in appreciation of their efforts to improve security in the area.

The atmosphere turned celebratory as an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) transported the recovered motorcycles through the town before they were taken to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force.

The motorcycles were recovered during a recent counter-ambush operation in which troops reportedly engaged armed bandits in a fierce confrontation, forcing many of them to flee while abandoning equipment and logistics.

Military sources said the operation resulted in the neutralisation of more than 100 suspected terrorists and the recovery of several items believed to have been used by the criminal groups during attacks across the region.

According to the sources, the motorcycles formed a critical part of the bandits' mobility network, enabling them to navigate difficult terrain and launch rapid attacks on communities before escaping into forests.

Their recovery is expected to significantly disrupt the operational capabilities of the armed groups.

Residents who witnessed the arrival of the convoy described the operation as another major boost to ongoing efforts to restore peace across Zamfara State.

Many expressed gratitude to the troops for what they described as sustained sacrifices in confronting insecurity despite the risks involved.

The spontaneous public reception reflected growing confidence in the military's ongoing operations and increasing cooperation between local communities and security agencies in the fight against banditry.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA has intensified offensive operations across the North-West in recent months, targeting known bandit enclaves, disrupting supply routes and recovering weapons, motorcycles and other logistics used by criminal groups.

Security officials say continued collaboration between residents and the military remains essential to sustaining recent operational gains and preventing armed groups from regrouping.

The latest public display of recovered motorcycles was also seen as a symbolic demonstration of the military's determination to weaken the mobility and operational strength of bandit networks while reassuring residents that efforts to restore lasting peace in Zamfara and neighbouring states remain ongoing.
