The death toll from the twin earthquakes that struck Venezuela earlier this week has risen to 1,430, as rescue workers continue searching through collapsed buildings and devastated communities for survivors.
National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced the updated casualty figures on Saturday, revealing that 3,238 people have also been injured in the disaster.
The powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 magnitudes, struck Venezuela on Wednesday, triggering widespread destruction across several communities and causing the collapse of homes, commercial buildings and public infrastructure.
The latest figures mark a sharp increase from the previously reported 920 deaths, highlighting the scale of the humanitarian crisis as search and rescue operations continue.
Emergency responders, including local authorities and international rescue teams, remain on the ground conducting search operations in the hardest-hit areas, while thousands of displaced residents continue to seek shelter and humanitarian assistance.
Authorities have yet to provide an updated estimate of the number of people still missing, as rescue efforts continue.
More details are expected as the situation develops.
