Troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed two suspected bandits, arrested four other suspects and recovered rustled livestock, weapons and electronic devices during a series of coordinated security operations across Kaduna State.
The military said the operations, conducted between June 20 and June 21, formed part of ongoing efforts to dismantle bandit and terrorist networks operating in the North-West.
According to military authorities, the first operation was launched on June 20 after troops received credible intelligence about cattle-rustling activities in a community within the state.
The troops reportedly mobilised and intercepted the suspected criminals as they attempted to flee with stolen livestock, leading to a gun battle during which two suspected bandits were killed.
Security personnel also recovered rustled animals, weapons and ammunition, successfully foiling the operation.
The military, however, disclosed that one civilian lost his life during the incident due to actions attributed to the bandits.
Later the same day, troops conducting a night patrol intercepted two suspected bandits.
A search of the suspects reportedly uncovered digital materials believed to contain evidence linking them to terrorist and bandit activities in the region.
The suspects were taken into custody and are undergoing further investigation.
The operations continued on June 21 when troops on a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who retreated into nearby bushes under military pressure.
The soldiers pursued the suspects and subsequently arrested two individuals believed to be serving as bandit scouts, allegedly providing intelligence support to criminal groups operating in the area.
Items recovered from the suspects included motorcycles and communication devices considered relevant to ongoing investigations.
In a separate incident, troops were deployed to Mararraba community following a violent disturbance triggered by the killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking by an angry mob.
The unrest escalated as residents attempted to attack public infrastructure and block a major highway.
Military personnel intervened, dispersed the crowd, secured critical facilities and restored normal movement along the affected route.
Security forces have since maintained a presence in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma commended the troops for what he described as their vigilance, discipline and operational effectiveness.
He said the recent successes reflected the military’s sustained pressure on bandits, terrorists and other criminal elements across the North-West and reaffirmed the commitment of security forces to intelligence-driven operations aimed at improving safety and security in affected communities.
