Troops Intercept Six Suspected Terrorist Suppliers, Recover Starlink, Fertilisers in Borno

Troops of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI, have arrested six suspected suppliers of logistics to terrorist elements and recovered a range of materials, including a Starlink satellite internet communication system, during an intelligence-led operation in Borno State.

The suspects were intercepted on Sunday, July 19, 2026, along a route believed to be used to transport supplies to terrorist groups operating in the state.

The acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, disclosed the development, saying the operation was conducted at about 4 p.m after troops established a stop-and-search point along the suspected terrorist supply route.

According to him, the six suspects were travelling in five vehicles loaded with various materials when they were intercepted and arrested.

Items recovered from the suspects included 202 cartons of herbicides, one jerrycan containing suspected acid, one Starlink wireless internet communication system, six bags of NPK fertiliser, 10 bags of rice, 50 hoes and 20 packs of knapsack sprayer pumps.

The military said a preliminary assessment indicated that some of the recovered materials could have dual-use capabilities, potentially supporting terrorist logistics, communications, mobility and general sustainment.

The military authorities, however, said further examination would be required to establish the intended use of the materials and their possible connection to terrorist activities.

In particular, the NPK fertiliser and suspected acid are to undergo technical and forensic examination to determine whether they were intended for the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

The six suspects and the recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the appropriate Military Intelligence Regiment for further investigation.

The investigation is expected to focus on identifying the intended recipients of the materials, tracing the wider logistics network and determining whether other individuals or groups were involved in supplying resources to terrorist elements.

The military said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to disrupt the networks that provide terrorists with the food, equipment, communications systems and other resources required to sustain their activities.

It added that preliminary debriefings of rescued hostages and family members of terrorists who had surrendered indicated that sustained military pressure and disruption of supply routes were having an impact on the operational capacity of insurgents.

According to the military, shortages of essential supplies, including food, medical materials and communications equipment, have reportedly placed additional pressure on terrorist groups, forcing some members to abandon camps, hostages and family members while attempting to escape sustained military operations.

The latest arrests underscore the military's increasing focus on the logistics networks that support terrorist operations, beyond direct engagements with insurgents on the battlefield.

Operation HADIN KAI said it would continue intelligence-driven operations targeting terrorist logistics networks, financiers, informants and collaborators in an effort to deny insurgents access to the resources and freedom of movement needed to sustain their activities.

The military also urged members of the public to continue providing credible and timely information that could assist security agencies in identifying and disrupting terrorist supply chains across the region.
