Terrorists Torch NSCDC Checkpoint, Abduct Resident in Fresh Kebbi Attack

Suspected terrorists have attacked Tsamiya town in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State, setting ablaze a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) checkpoint, torching residential buildings and abducting a resident in the latest wave of insecurity to hit the area.

The attack, which occurred late Saturday, triggered panic among residents, many of whom reportedly fled for safety as the assailants stormed the community and unleashed violence.

Confirming the incident on Sunday, the Kebbi State Police Command disclosed that the attackers burned a makeshift NSCDC checkpoint, a local brothel and the residence of a resident identified as Sule Mai Goge.

The command also confirmed the abduction of a resident, Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare, during the raid.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Bashir Usman, said the attackers invaded the community and fired sporadically before carrying out the destruction.

“The assailants invaded the area, fired sporadically, and set ablaze a makeshift checkpoint belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), a local brothel and the residence of one Sule Mai Goge. One Alhaji Yusuf Bazamfare was also kidnapped during the incident,” Usman stated.

He said the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected community following reports of the attack.

According to him, security operatives have commenced investigations while efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victim and track down those responsible for the assault.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police immediately directed the deployment of additional security forces to secure lives and property,” the police spokesperson added.

The latest attack has renewed concerns over the security situation in parts of Kebbi State, particularly communities located around forest corridors and border areas that have repeatedly come under attack from armed groups.

Security sources indicated that several civilian homes were also set ablaze during the invasion, resulting in significant property losses and forcing many residents to flee.

The destruction of both public and private property has heightened fears among residents over the possibility of further attacks in the area, despite ongoing security operations aimed at curbing criminal activities across the state.

Authorities are expected to carry out further security assessments and clearance operations in the affected communities as efforts continue to restore normalcy.

Meanwhile, the police have urged residents of Tsamiya and neighbouring communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could assist ongoing investigations and rescue efforts.
