Real Madrid have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva after submitting a formal contract offer to the Manchester City star, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
The development signals Real Madrid's growing determination to secure the services of the highly-rated midfielder, whose contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of June, bringing an end to a trophy-laden nine-year spell at the Etihad Stadium.
Romano disclosed on social media platform X that negotiations between Silva and Real Madrid are already at an advanced stage, with the Spanish club optimistic about completing the deal ahead of rivals Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
According to the report, incoming Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has personally identified Silva as one of his top transfer priorities as he prepares to reshape the squad for the upcoming campaign.
"Real Madrid have sent an official proposal to Bernardo Silva and are in advanced talks to sign the midfielder," Romano wrote.
Silva's anticipated departure from Manchester City has attracted interest from several top European clubs. Barcelona, in particular, have pursued the midfielder on multiple occasions over the past few years but have repeatedly failed to secure his signature.
While Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is believed to be an admirer of Silva, financial constraints and concerns over squad balance have reportedly complicated the Catalan club's efforts to complete a deal.
Real Madrid now appear to have moved into pole position, with reports suggesting the club is prepared to meet Silva's contractual demands.
The 31-year-old Portuguese international remains one of Europe's most versatile midfielders, capable of operating in central midfield, attacking midfield and wide attacking roles.
His arrival would provide additional creativity and experience to a Real Madrid squad seeking reinforcements following injuries and inconsistent performances in key positions.
Should negotiations progress successfully, Silva could become one of Real Madrid's most significant acquisitions of the summer transfer window.
