The Oyo State Government has demolished several wooden and metal shanties in the Ojoo area of Akinyele Local Government Area following allegations that some of the structures were being used by suspected criminals to store dangerous weapons and carry out illegal activities.
The demolition exercise was carried out in compliance with a directive issued by the state government after a stakeholders' meeting convened in the aftermath of a violent clash that occurred in the area on July 7 and 8 , 2026.
The clash reportedly claimed two lives and heightened concerns over security in the community.
During a visit to the area, the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, was informed that some of the makeshift structures were allegedly being used by criminal elements as hideouts and for storing weapons and other illicit items.
Following the government's directive, a joint security team supervised the demolition of the structures.
Speaking on the exercise, the Chairman of Akinyele Local Government Area, Akinwole Akinleye, said the demolition was part of efforts to restore peace, strengthen security and prevent a recurrence of the violence recently witnessed in Ojoo.
He noted that the action was aimed at dismantling locations allegedly linked to criminal activities and improving public safety in the area.
