'Our Journey To A New Nigeria Cannot Be Halted' — Peter Obi’s Camp Reacts To NDC Court Setback

The media office of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to Friday's Federal High Court judgment that set aside the earlier order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register the NDC as a political party.
In a statement issued on Friday by Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR), the organisation described the Lokoja court ruling as a temporary setback and assured supporters that its legal team was already reviewing the judgment with a view to filing an appeal.
The reaction follows the decision of the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State, which vacated its December 2025 judgment that had directed INEC to register the NDC.
Reacting to the development, POMR said it had received numerous inquiries from journalists and supporters over what it described as the "strange" ruling.
According to the statement signed by its spokesman, Idris Zekeri Jnr., the media office said its lawyers were studying the judgment and would immediately begin the legal process to challenge it.
"We have received the news of today's bizarre ruling from the court in Lokoja regarding the legal status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC)," the statement said.
"While our legal teams are thoroughly reviewing the judgment to initiate immediate corrective and appellate measures, our Principal urges all our supporters, coalition partners and patriots nationwide to remain absolutely calm and focused."
The organisation maintained that it remained committed to pursuing what it described as a legitimate political alternative ahead of the 2027 general election despite the legal setback.
POMR argued that political reforms often encounter institutional and legal obstacles, insisting that Friday's judgment would not derail the movement's broader objective.
"We always knew that the journey to dismantle a deeply entrenched and grossly underperforming political status quo would be met with fierce institutional resistance and unexpected legal detours," the statement added.
"Today's ruling is a hurdle, not a stop sign. Our commitment to providing a transparent, legitimate and formidable alternative for Nigerians remains unshakeable."
The organisation further encouraged its supporters not to lose confidence, expressing optimism that the legal process would ultimately resolve the dispute.
"Do not be discouraged; the vehicle may face a temporary breakdown, but our destination remains non-negotiable," the statement said.
With POMR now confirming that it intends to challenge the judgment, the legal battle over the status of the Nigeria Democratic Congress is expected to continue in the appellate courts.
