Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Obamuyi as the new Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the Governor's Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, who said the decision followed the recommendation of the university's Governing Council in line with the provisions of the institution's Act and other extant regulations.

According to the statement, Obamuyi emerged the highest-ranked candidate among 15 applicants interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board before his appointment was endorsed by the Governing Council chaired by Dr. Tunji Abayomi.

The professor of Banking and Finance will succeed the outgoing Vice Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.

A respected academic and administrator, Obamuyi has served in several leadership positions, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA. He was also the pioneer substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

His contributions to academia have earned him international recognition, including the Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa 2015 award presented by the Africa Education Leadership Awards in Mauritius.

Obamuyi has also served on several National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation panels and was a chairperson and subject expert on the review panel of Namibia's National Council for Higher Education.

Throughout his academic career, he has presented scholarly papers at international conferences in Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India and the United States.

Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice Chancellor's academic pedigree and administrative experience would build on the achievements recorded by the university and position the institution for greater excellence in teaching, research and community service.

The governor urged Obamuyi to uphold the core values of Adekunle Ajasin University while promoting innovation, collaboration and peaceful coexistence among staff, students and other stakeholders.
