Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has declared that Nigeria will not bow to the activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements, expressing confidence that the country will overcome its security challenges through collective efforts, effective governance and divine intervention.
The Governor made the declaration during a special worship service at LoveWorld City, Headquarters of Christ Embassy in Benin City, where he sought prayers for peace, security, economic recovery and national prosperity.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Okpebholo called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith and support ongoing efforts aimed at restoring stability and strengthening public confidence across the country.
He specifically appealed for prayers against kidnapping, cult-related violence and other security threats affecting communities in different parts of the nation. According to the Governor, criminal elements must not be allowed to dictate the future of the country or hold innocent citizens hostage through fear and violence.
“This country does not belong to kidnappers. No individual or group should be allowed to hold the nation captive for personal, criminal or political interests,” he said.
The Governor observed that security concerns often intensify as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of elections, noting that vigilance, collaboration and prayer remain critical to overcoming such challenges.
“As elections draw closer, kidnapping and other security concerns have become issues of national concern. However, with the prayers of God's people and the collective determination of government and citizens, we believe these challenges will be defeated,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo also called for prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant the President wisdom, strength and clarity in steering the affairs of the nation and implementing policies aimed at economic recovery and national development. He expressed optimism that Nigeria would emerge stronger from its current challenges and urged citizens to remain hopeful despite prevailing difficulties.
The Governor noted that prayers for Nigeria would naturally translate into peace, security and progress for Edo State and all other parts of the federation.
Leading the congregation in prayers, Pastor Moses Olayemi offered supplications for Nigeria’s leaders, economy, local government areas and communities, praying for divine protection, peace and restoration across the nation. The cleric also commended Governor Okpebholo for ongoing developmental initiatives in Edo State, particularly in the area of road infrastructure and public service delivery.
According to him, visible improvements across several parts of the state demonstrate the administration’s commitment to development and improved living conditions for residents.
“We appreciate the transformation taking place across the state. Roads and other critical projects are progressing steadily, and we commend your efforts. May God grant you the strength, wisdom and resources to complete the work you have started,” Pastor Olayemi said.
The visit formed part of the Governor’s broader engagement with faith-based organisations and community stakeholders in promoting peace, development and social cohesion across Edo State.
