Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested three suspected transnational drug traffickers after intercepting a truck conveying 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg concealed in a specially fabricated compartment during an intelligence-led operation in Lagos.

The agency said the suspects, comprising two nationals of the Benin Republic and one Nigerian, were arrested on June 21 at Mile 2 Bridge after credible intelligence led operatives to the truck transporting the illicit consignment from Togo through the Benin Republic into Nigeria.

Confirming the operation in a statement on Sunday, the NDLEA's Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said officers recovered the large quantity of tramadol after conducting a thorough search of the vehicle.

"A thorough search of the truck led to the recovery of 558,900 pills of Tramadol 250mg, concealed in a fabricated compartment of the vehicle," Babafemi said.

The agency disclosed that its crackdown on drug trafficking also led to the arrest of two suspects along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Friday, June 26, while transporting 118 kilograms of skunk concealed among legitimate goods in a truck travelling from Ebute Ero, Lagos Island, to Onitsha, Anambra State.

In another intelligence-led operation carried out on Saturday, June 27, operatives of the NDLEA Special Operations Unit arrested a 57-year-old suspect at a motor park in Iddo, Lagos, after recovering 209.5 kilograms of Scottish Loud, a potent strain of cannabis.

According to the agency, the illicit consignment was destined for Enugu State before it was intercepted.

Two women arrested in Lagos

Babafemi also disclosed that NDLEA officers arrested two women on June 26 during a raid at 15 Olumokun Street, Amukoko, Lagos, where 28.8 kilograms of skunk were recovered.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the principal suspect allegedly stored narcotic consignments with the second suspect before distributing them to customers.
