Adeniyi Adeyemi, who describes himself as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), has alleged that his life is under threat and appealed to President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent panel to investigate the controversy surrounding the council.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, Adeyemi claimed unidentified individuals had repeatedly visited his elderly parents residence in an apparent attempt to locate him, describing the development as an act of intimidation.
"My life is in danger, and I mean what I am saying," he said during the programme.
According to Adeyemi, unknown young men visited his parents home about 30 times within three days, often at odd hours, claiming they were searching for someone identified as "Adebayo."
He said the repeated visits had left his parents traumatised and living in fear.
"Imagine my aged parents. They are under tension," he said.
Questioning the approach allegedly adopted by those searching for him, Adeyemi argued that authorities should have formally invited him if they genuinely intended to question him.
"If truly they want me, why can't they invite me?" he asked.
Adeyemi alleged that the visits were intended to intimidate him into silence, insisting he had committed no offence.
"They are just trying to coerce me," he claimed.
The self-acclaimed PFIPC chief called on President Tinubu to constitute an independent panel to investigate the dispute surrounding the council, arguing that the controversy could only be resolved through an impartial inquiry.
According to him, the panel should include representatives of international organisations and civil society groups to guarantee credibility and neutrality.
"Let an independent panel put an end to all of this," he appealed.
Adeyemi also rejected allegations that he was involved in fraud, maintaining that an independent investigation would establish the true facts.
"I am not a con artist. The independent panel will unravel the truth and say whether I am wrong or I am right," he said.
He added that he was prepared to face the consequences if found guilty of any wrongdoing.
"I am ready to bear the wrath of the law," he stated.
Adeyemi further alleged that unnamed individuals were attempting to silence him through intimidation but insisted he would not be deterred.
"They want to silence me by fire, by force, and I will not be silenced," he said.
He argued that the conflicting narratives surrounding the PFIPC had become an embarrassment to both the Presidency and the country, urging President Tinubu to intervene directly.
"They should stop embarrassing Mr President and Nigerians at large with all these issues. Let Mr President please constitute an independent panel to unravel the issue," he said.
Appealing to the public, Adeyemi urged Nigerians to rely on documentary evidence rather than public accusations.
"Nigerians should put forth facts and documents, not propaganda. Let the truth be known to the world," he added.
He also dismissed suggestions that he was evading authorities, insisting he remained willing to appear publicly despite what he described as threats to his safety.
The Federal Government, however, has consistently maintained that the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council has no legal status and has instituted criminal proceedings against Adeyemi over allegations including forgery, impersonation and related offences.
The matter is currently before the Federal High Court for determination.
President Tinubu had earlier directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate the controversy. However, Adeyemi argued during the interview that the commission, being a government agency, should not be responsible for investigating the matter, insisting that only an independent panel would command public confidence.
As the legal proceedings continue, no court has reached a determination on the allegations against Adeyemi.
