Makinde Extends Curfew in 10 Oyo LGAs by 24 Hours Amid Security Concerns

The Oyo State Government has extended by an additional 24 hours the curfew imposed on 10 local government areas bordering the Old Oyo National Park as authorities continue efforts to address security concerns within the affected communities.

The extension was approved by Governor Seyi Makinde and announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Musibau Babatunde.

The curfew, which was initially imposed on June 23, 2026 was scheduled to last for 48 hours. However, with the latest directive, residents in the affected local government areas will remain under movement restrictions until Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Under the curfew order, residents are required to remain indoors between 4:00 p.m and 8:00 a.m daily. The affected local government areas include Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

The state government had earlier introduced the restrictions in communities located around the Old Oyo National Park following emerging security concerns within the axis.

While authorities did not provide fresh details on the reasons for the extension, the government maintained that the measure remains necessary to support ongoing security operations and safeguard lives and property in the affected areas.

As of Thursday evening, no further changes or additional restrictions had been announced beyond the newly approved extension.

Residents have been urged to continue cooperating with security agencies and comply fully with the curfew order while efforts to restore normalcy continue.

The latest development underscores the state government's commitment to maintaining security across vulnerable communities and preventing any escalation of threats within the affected local government areas.
