Lawal Reaffirms Commitment to Security, Promises Greater Support for Troops Battling Bandits in Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to supporting security agencies in the ongoing fight against banditry and terrorism, pledging to provide every assistance required to strengthen security operations across the state.

The governor gave the assurance on Thursday while presiding over the weekly State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.

According to a statement issued by the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, the meeting brought together heads of security agencies operating in the state to review the security situation and develop strategies aimed at addressing emerging threats in vulnerable communities.

The discussions focused on improving troop deployment to flashpoints, enhancing operational coordination among security agencies and strengthening rapid response capabilities during emergencies.

Lawal assured security chiefs that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of personnel on the frontlines, stressing that effective security operations require sustained government support.

"Governor Dauda Lawal chaired the weekly security council meeting with renewed commitment to strengthening support for the troops," the statement said.

"He assured the heads of the security agencies of his readiness to take all necessary measures to ensure the well-being of troops operating in the state.

"The meeting addressed key issues, particularly strengthening troop presence and improving rapid response during emergencies."

The governor described the restoration of peace and security as one of the foremost priorities of his administration, noting that his office would remain open to security agencies to ensure they receive the support necessary to carry out their constitutional responsibilities effectively.

He reiterated that the state government would continue working closely with the military, police and other security agencies to confront criminal activities and protect lives and property across Zamfara.

Zamfara remains one of the states most affected by armed banditry in northern Nigeria, with communities frequently experiencing attacks, kidnappings and displacement.

On June 7, no fewer than 39 residents of Magamin Diddi in Maradun Local Government Area were abducted after visiting a bandit camp in Fadama Forest for what community sources described as a reconciliation meeting.

The latest assurance by Governor Lawal comes as authorities intensify efforts to improve security coordination and contain the persistent threat posed by armed criminal groups operating across the state.
